First decide a theme based on wonder. I like the idea of “I wonder….”, “I wish…”, “If I wasn’t afraid I would…”, or “My next big creation will be…”
In this game people will pretend that there is a genie (or they are a genie) who is able to grant wishes. Everyone gets to anonymously dream up whatever their hearts desires are, fantastical, financial, romantic, impossible or realistic…
Then, everyone writes their wishes on little bits of paper, folds them, and places them anonymously in a secret box (or bowl-type container).
Variations of completing the event include a time when people take turns choosing papers out of the container and reading them aloud!!! You could also paste all the wishes on a wishing wall, or hang the wishes on a wishing tree. OR! All the wishes could to be drawn in crayons, and then at the end of the game, everyone takes turns trying to interpret the drawings of what people’s wishes are!
This game is a good game because it gives people the opportunity to dream big about their lives, practice expressing themselves anonymously and hopefully expressing and exploring deep truths… Maybe you do want to get married after all, but are too scared to admit this in public. Maybe you want to dye your hair green, but are afraid what people will think. OR, maybe you just want to practice wishing for a big old dream house that will make your dreams come true.
The whole point to this exercise is to help your inner-children come out in a party environment and express what they want. I dream of genie is a fun, safe, innocent ice-breaker where people get to learn about each other, be silly and creative in a fun family-style environment safe for kids of all ages!
If you choose the theme “If I wasn’t afraid I would…” then everyone just completes the sentence and then puts it in the container. People can take turns reading people’s answers, or open them together as a group. This can be a fun way to make your own oracle!
